Only momentarily was the Type R car out of the lead several times in the race, but that was only when they pitted and after the final exchange of pit stops entering the final hours, it was clear that they were well on the way to the top step of the podium, with Tek doing the honours of taking the car to the finish. At that point, the second-placed Honda Civic of Lai Wee Sing, Farriz Fauzy and Tseu Chan Kee were almost a minute adrift and the only car on the same lap of the leaders. This trio, however, emerged as Class 2 (cars under 1,600cc) winners. Third-placed Goi Chun Kiat, Ser Meng Hui and Mohd Nizam Yazet were also second in Class 1 (cars between 1,601cc and 1,900cc) with their Proton Satria GTi finishing as the best-placed national car in the race. For the winning trio, it was a matter of keeping pace and although they had a little scare early on with the Toyota Ae11 of Kenny Lee, Chris O'Shannessy and Tung Wei Shiao giving them a fight, the score was settled when the Toyota went out due to mechanical problems. "The car was performing very well, we had a good team of mechanics too. Our refuelling stops, tyre changes and everything was done very fast, so this contributed much to the victory," said Wong. "In the afternoon, it was a bit hot, so it was quite difficult for us to try and maintain our lap times, plus there was initially some pressure from the Toyota. We were on our toes as the distance was very close, but when they were out of the race, our job was made easier." The winning trio also earned automatic qualification to the Merdeka Millennium Endurance (MME) in August as part of their prize.RESULTS (Top 10 overall) -- 1 Soh Kee Koon-Wong Yew Choong-Tek Kean Kang (Honda Integra) 8"49:30.103s, 2 Lai Wee Sing-Farriz Fauzy-Tseu Chan Kee (Honda Civic) +49.538s, 3 Goi Chun Kiat-Ser Meng Hui-Mohd Nizam Yazet (Proton Satria GTi) 1 lap behind, 4 Junichi Umemoto-Chris Tan-Wataru Maeyama (Honda Integra) 1 lap, 5 PC Ng-James Veerapen-Shaun Tan (Proton Gen2) 2 laps, 6 Kelvin Phon-Moh Tze Yang-Jansen Tan (Honda Civic) 3 laps, 7 Danny Chin-Desmond Khoo (Proton Satria GTi) 3 laps, 8 Lee Seah Hoe-Leong Kuan Yew-Tang Chun Heong-Jerry Ng (Proton Satria GTi) 4 laps, 9 Wong Tziak Joe-Mohd Saifulizan Khalid-Nik Muhammad Izwan-Mohd Shahril Nindar (Honda Civic) 4 laps, 10 Brian Eravelly-Ramsey Rizal-Yew Siak Jin (Toyota Celica) 6 laps.
