Their Honda Integra crew of Wong Yew Choong, Soh Kee Koon and Tek Kean Kang emerged as the fastest car at the Sepang circuit yesterday. They were, surprisingly, the only car from Class 1 (between 1,601cc and 1,900cc) in the top five of qualifying. Their time of two minutes 40.608 seconds was half a second faster than the second-placed Tung Chun Racing Team of Rhommell Singh and Ian Lee in a Honda Civic. Rhommell and Lee lead a cast of strong Class 2 cars (up to 1,600cc) of predominantly Hondas but the Toyota AE11 of Kenny Lee, Chris O'Shannessy and Tung Wei Shiao came in third with 2:41.304s. The Type R Honda team showed they have a well balanced squad of drivers with their car being the fastest in two of the three qualifying sessions. The fastest average time of the three drivers put their car on pole for the rolling start today. Wong clocked the fastest lap among the trio with a time of 2:38.046s, needing just three laps to find his rhythm, and he is expected to give the team a blistering race pace today.Today's Sepang 1,000km race, held at noon, will feature 56 cars. It is expected to run for more than nine hours as the cars need to complete 182 laps in order to run up to 1,008 kilometres on the 5.543km circuit.Qualifying results (overall top 10): 1 Soh Kee Koon-Wong Yew Choong-Tek Kean Kang (Honda Integra) 2:40.608s, 2 Rhommell Singh-Ian Lee (Honda Civic) 2:41.028s, 3 Kenny Lee-Chris O'Shannessy-Tung Wei Shiao (Toyota AE11) 2:41.304s, 4 Lai Wee Sing-Farriz Fauzy-Tseu Chan Kee (Honda Civic) 2:41.635s, 5 Zane Loo-K.
