In this second update of the Total 24 Hours of Spa 2009 a number of teams and drivers can be confirmed (or linked) to the blue ribbon event of the 2009 FIA GT Championship.
Already expected to return to the Belgian track, but only confirmed this week was a Porsche 997 GT3 RSR of French squad IMSA Performance Matmut. Raymond Narac and Patrick Pilet, victorious on the Belgian circuit last weekend in GT Open, will again share their car with American driver Patrick Long. While the team hopes to wash away the disappointing result at Le Mans last month their main aim is something else. “As the Felbermayr-Proton team won’t be attending, our performance at Spa will be even more important in Porsche’s class battle against Ferrari. We are certainly hopeful of challenging for the win, although we’ll also be mindful that, as an official factory team, the priority will be to help Porsche as much as possible in the FIA GT2 title race”, said Narac.
Having been on the full season entrylist before the season PMB Motorsport is planning to compete in the G2 class at Spa with three cars. One of them the Porsche 996 GT2-R (for Kaufmann, Ulmann and Vannelet) and two Ginetta G50 GT4 cars.
Meanwhile our colleagues at Autosport.be and Turbo Magazine confirmed the presence of three Maserati MC12s and one Audi R8 LMS.
The three Vitaphone Maserati MC12s would be driven by Michael Bartels-Andrea Bertolini-Stéphane Sarrazin-Alexandre Negrão, Alex Müller-Miguel Ramos-Pedro Lamy-Eric van de Poele and Carl Rosenblad-Alessandro Pier Guidi-Vincent Vosse-Stéphane Lémeret. The Audi R8 LMS, entered by Phoenix Racing, should have Swiss drivers Marcel Fässler and Henri Moser. According to several sources they will be joined by Alex Margaritis and Jean-François Hemroulle.
Prospeed Competition will have a complete reshuffle in the cars they enter. Emmanuel Collard and Richard Westbrook are set to be joined by Sean Edwards and Darryl O’Young in the #60 Porsche 997 GT3 RSR. The second car (#61) will most likely feature four ‘gentlemen drivers’, one of them confirmed today as Dutchman Paul van Splunteren. Prospeed Competition’s plans also include a single G3 entry with a Porsche Cup car in which only Niki Lanik seems to be confirmed at the moment.
Marco Holzer, a regular driver on the Prospeed #61 Porsche, will swap teams for the Spa 24 Hours and is now set to race in the Brixia Racing Porsche.
The Sangari Team Brazil Corvette C6.R should see two Belgian drivers joining Bernoldi and Streit, although nothing is signed there. Fred Bouvy is one of the favourites for the remaining seats, although is name is also linked to a BMW Alpina B6 GT3.
