ONE OF 8 CARS: Magaswari checks out her damaged car in PJ yesterday
A REGULAR morning outing for 57-year-old single mother, V. Mageswari, turned nasty when she found the windscreen of her red Proton Iswara Aeroback smashed and the car ransacked at Jalan 224, Petaling Jaya, yesterday.But she was not the lone victim.
Eight other vehicles suffered similar damage including a one-tonne lorry which had its battery stolen.
"I was about to go to my brother's house when I saw a large crowd near where I parked my car. It turned out that most of the cars parked there were smashed and ransacked," she said.
She just bought the second-hand car a year ago. "My car's radio player was missing and money inside the coin compartment was stolen," said Mageswari, who has lived at the Block B Intan Baiduri Apartments since 1981.
She said some of the apartment residents had to park their car along Jalan 224 because the parking lots inside are full.
Another victim, Malar Devi, 27, said she was about leave for work at 7am when she found her Perodua Myvi's window smashed and coin compartment opened. She lodged a police report at PJ district police headquarters. K. Sukumaran, had his lorry's battery stolen.
Meanwhile, an apartment resident, Fatimah Ahmad, 66, said this has happened many times in the past two years.
"In September last year, my son's Honda CRV's stereo was stolen in this area too," she said. PJ district police Chief ACP Arjunaidi Mohamed said six police reports had been lodged on the incident.
"We urge witnesses to contact PJ district police headquarters or the nearest police station," he said.
