Geneva Auto Show 2010

Green cars, concept cars, and electric cars continue to dazzle onlookers at the ongoing Geneva Auto Show 2010 that continues till 14th of March. Of course, conventional cars are interesting like always at the Auto Show. There is a complete array of cars to suit the needs of environment lovers or those who want hunky gorgeous looking cars based on conventional fuel.

Fiat will introduce a limited edition of Black Bravo which will be available in Switzerland only after the auto show. Nissan has already introduced Micra which is a small car model that will be manufactured at four locations including India, Mexico, Thailand and Brazil. Nissan also showcased its green car “Leaf” at the Show while Tata introduced its Nano EV model as part of its global strategy to become a major auto manufacturer in the world.

US Major, Ford introduced Focus and the new model of C-Max for its customers in Europe and the US.

Honda unveiled 3R-C concept car which is again an electric vehicle but only one seater model. 3R-C has two wheels up front and one in the back. Yet another concept car that will be available as a production ready model will be Infinity M35 Hybrid which will be brand’s first gasoline-electric vehicle. It will be on sale in Europe in spring 2011 that comes as a part of brand’s redesigned M line. It is a 3.5-liter V6 with a 50-kw electric motor that is built into the car's seven-speed automatic transmission. Energy is stored in a lithium-ion battery pack.

Malaysia’s largest auto manufacturer Proton is also present at the Geneva Auto Show with its Proton hybrid concept 2010 that has been created in collaboration with its British subsidiary Lotus Engineering and Italdesign Giugaro. The model is based on company’s 1.2L three cylinder “range extender” engine which was first introduced at the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show.

Lotus Engineering also displayed its 414E Hybrid vehicle which is called as “high performance technology demonstrator.” The Evora 414E Hybrid shares its 47-horsepower 1.2-liter three-cylinder gasoline "range extender" engine with the Proton hybrid concept.

A special Mercedes E Class model was displayed by Tuner Brabus with a Brabus' SV12 R Biturbo 800 engine that is based on the 12-cylinder twin-turbo on the new Mercedes 600, with displacement upped from 5.5 to 6.3 liters and the addition of custom headers, a special crankshaft, larger pistons and cylinder bore, and sport camshafts.

Volkswagen finally showcased its third generation VW Sharan minivan which is termed as one of the most frugal MPV in its class in the world.
